New York: The Viking Press, 1961. Elmer Hader. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good hardcover copy of "The Winter Of Our Discontent" by John Steinbeck in a very good dust jacket. Book is 1st edition. The dust jacket takes some explanation. The complete jacket is of a later printing with a $6.00 price. Oddly enough, the flaps of a first state jacket are included. The previous owner slipped them under the full jacket's flaps and cut out the top right corner of the later state jacket's front flap so that the first state price $4.50 showed through. It looks harmless enough. Bought through auction, I don't have the story as to the reason why this was done. However, the flaps tend to survive longer than the rest of the jacket, which generally had no protection, so I'm assuming the original jacket fell apart except the flaps which were kept. Anyway, spine slightly rolled. Corners bumped. Edges of text block a little toned. Ends of spine on jacket lightly worn. Tight and clean. Enjoy this final novel of a Nobel Prize-Winner!
